Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo “Bruno Mars 24K Magic World Tour” — Ref. 15202BA.OO.1240BA.02.94
Eight watches. One world tour. A personal gift from Bruno Mars to his band.
Among the many variations of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo, few have a story quite like the “Bruno Mars 24K Magic World Tour” edition.
Created in just eight examples, this extraordinary 39mm Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin was commissioned for Bruno Mars’s acclaimed 24K Magic World Tour and presented to members of his band, The Hooligans, in recognition of their contribution to the tour.
Crafted entirely in 18K yellow gold, the reference 15202BA.OO.1240BA.02.94 combines one of watchmaking’s most recognisable designs with an unusually personal connection to contemporary music history.
The Story Behind the Bruno Mars Royal Oak
Bruno Mars’s 24K Magic World Tour began in March 2017 and concluded in December 2018.
To celebrate the success of the tour and thank the musicians who performed alongside him, Mars presented members of The Hooligans with specially commissioned Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo watches.
Only eight examples were created.
Unlike a conventional limited edition released to the public, these watches were intended as personal gifts.
Each example features commemorative details connecting it directly to the tour and its original recipient.
This unusual origin makes the Bruno Mars Royal Oak a fascinating crossover between fine watchmaking, celebrity provenance and music memorabilia.
A Royal Oak Jumbo with a Personal Story
At first glance, the watch resembles the classic yellow gold Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin.
Its 39mm case, integrated gold bracelet and champagne-toned Petite Tapisserie dial preserve the distinctive proportions of the original Royal Oak design introduced in 1972.
However, the details on the reverse reveal its exceptional story.
The caseback is engraved with “XXIVK MAGIC WORLD TOUR,” commemorating Bruno Mars’s celebrated concert tour.
Even more unusually, the automatic movement’s rotor bears personalised initials corresponding to the musician who originally received the watch.
These individual details transform each example into a distinct commemorative timepiece with a direct connection to its original recipient.
The Legendary Calibre 2121
Powering the watch is the automatic Audemars Piguet calibre 2121.
This celebrated ultra-thin movement is closely associated with the original Royal Oak Jumbo reference 5402.
Developed from the Jaeger-LeCoultre calibre 920 architecture, the movement played an important role in establishing the Royal Oak’s exceptionally slim proportions.
Its elegant construction and historical significance have made it one of the most respected automatic movements associated with the Royal Oak collection.
The calibre 2121 was eventually succeeded by the manufacture calibre 7121 in the newer generation of Royal Oak Jumbo watches.
For collectors, the Bruno Mars edition therefore represents not only a rare commemorative creation but also an example of the classic calibre 2121 era.
Why the Bruno Mars Royal Oak Is Collectible
Several characteristics distinguish this reference from conventional Royal Oak limited editions.
Production of just eight examples: The watches were created specifically for Bruno Mars’s band rather than offered as a regular commercial release.
Direct connection to music history: Each watch commemorates the 24K Magic World Tour, one of the defining international tours of Bruno Mars’s career.
Individual personalisation: The commemorative caseback and recipient-specific rotor initials provide distinctive identifying features.
Classic Jumbo architecture: The 39mm yellow gold case, integrated bracelet and ultra-thin calibre 2121 preserve the essential character of the Royal Oak Jumbo.
Documented auction history: Sotheby’s offered an example associated with bassist Jamareo Artis in its June 2024 Important Watches auction, providing an important public reference for the edition.
The result is a watch whose significance extends beyond traditional horological rarity.
It represents a rare intersection of haute horlogerie, contemporary music culture and personal history.
