The Armin Strom Mirrored Force Resonance represents one of the most technically distinctive approaches to resonance in contemporary independent watchmaking. Developed by the Biel-based manufacture, the watch uses two independent regulating systems connected through Armin Strom’s patented resonance clutch mechanism, allowing the two balance wheels to synchronise through the transfer of vibrational energy.
Unlike conventional watches employing a single regulating organ, Armin Strom’s resonance architecture uses two independent balance wheels that regulate one another while operating in synchrony. The manufacture developed the system to improve chronometric consistency by mitigating disturbances caused by factors including wrist movement, gravity, temperature variation and shocks.
What makes this particular example especially unusual is its red hand-guilloché dial, crafted by the dial atelier associated with master watchmaker Kari Voutilainen. The traditional rose-engine guilloché creates a deeply textured surface that changes character with the light, providing an artisanal counterpoint to the exposed mechanical architecture of the resonance mechanism.
The combination brings together two distinct areas of contemporary independent watchmaking: Armin Strom’s technical work in resonance and the traditional decorative craftsmanship associated with Kari Voutilainen’s dialmaking atelier.
