The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Rattrapante Perpetual Calendar Ref. 421.025 is one of the manufacture’s most technically accomplished Grand Complications, combining a split-seconds chronograph (rattrapante) with a perpetual calendar and moon-phase display within a 41.9mm platinum case.
Introduced in 2013, the 1815 Rattrapante Perpetual Calendar brought together two of traditional watchmaking’s most demanding complications while retaining the classical design language of A. Lange & Söhne’s 1815 collection.
Rattrapante Split-Seconds Chronograph
At the heart of the Ref. 421.025 is a sophisticated rattrapante, or split-seconds chronograph, allowing two events that begin simultaneously to be timed independently.
Two superimposed chronograph seconds hands can be separated using the rattrapante pusher, allowing an intermediate or comparative time to be recorded while the primary chronograph continues running.
The combination of a split-seconds chronograph with a perpetual calendar places the 1815 Rattrapante Perpetual Calendar among a particularly rare class of high-complication watches.
Perpetual Calendar & Moon Phase
Alongside its chronograph functions, the Ref. 421.025 incorporates a complete perpetual calendar, mechanically accounting for the differing lengths of months and leap years.
The dial displays the date, day of the week, month, leap-year cycle and moon phase, together with a power-reserve indication.
Despite the amount of information displayed, the design remains distinctly Lange, with Arabic numerals, railway-track scales and blued hands against an argenté-coloured solid-silver dial.
Calibre L101.1
Visible through the sapphire-crystal caseback is the manually wound A. Lange & Söhne Calibre L101.1.
Comprising an extraordinary 631 individual parts, the movement operates at 21,600 semi-oscillations per hour and provides approximately 42 hours of power reserve.
The complexity and finishing of the L101.1 make the movement itself one of the defining features of the 1815 Rattrapante Perpetual Calendar.
Platinum Ref. 421.025
The Ref. 421.025 is presented in a substantial 41.9mm 950 platinum case, measuring 14.7mm in height, paired with an argenté solid-silver dial and platinum deployant buckle.
The restrained platinum and silver colour palette places the emphasis on the watch’s traditional architecture, blued hands and exceptional movement.
