The Calibre 1304 uses two parallel mainspring barrels to provide a more stable delivery of power to the escapement. F.P. Journe says the movement was inspired by early 19th-century marine chronometers.
What Makes It Special
The asymmetrical dial layout is one of the Chronomètre Souverain’s defining characteristics. The small seconds sits at 7:30, while the power-reserve indication occupies the opposite side.
The transparent caseback also reveals an unusual visual effect. The balance and escapement appear almost detached from the rest of the movement because the gear train is positioned beneath the dial.
For a collector, the rose-gold case combined with the rose-gold Calibre 1304 is particularly appealing. It gives the watch a much warmer character than the platinum version while retaining the same fundamental architecture.
