The Patek Philippe 5270P-001 is one of the most distinctive modern interpretations of the manufacture’s celebrated perpetual calendar chronograph. Introduced at Baselworld in 2018, it marked the first time the Ref. 5270 was offered in platinum, pairing the precious-metal case with a highly coveted golden opaline dial widely known among collectors as the “salmon dial.”

The dial is distinguished by blackened-gold applied Arabic numerals and matching hands, creating a striking contrast against the warm salmon tone. Its classical layout incorporates day and month apertures at 12 o’clock, a date and moon-phase display at 6 o’clock, small seconds at 9 o’clock and a 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock, complemented by leap-year and day/night indications.

At its heart is Patek Philippe’s manually wound Calibre CH 29-535 PS Q, combining a column-wheel chronograph with a perpetual calendar. The Ref. 5270 holds particular importance within Patek Philippe’s history as the manufacture’s first perpetual calendar chronograph family powered by a fully in-house chronograph movement.

Produced from 2018 until 2022, the salmon-dial 5270P-001 had a relatively short production run before being succeeded by the green-dial Ref. 5270P-014. Its combination of platinum, salmon dial and distinctive Arabic numerals has made it one of the most recognizable and collector-focused configurations within the modern 5270 family.

Why is the Patek Philippe 5270P-001 significant?

The 5270P-001 occupies a distinctive place in the modern history of Patek Philippe’s perpetual calendar chronograph. Introduced in 2018, it was the first platinum version of the Ref. 5270 and combined that case material with a salmon-coloured dial, a colour historically associated with some of Patek Philippe’s most desirable collector watches.

The configuration is further distinguished by its blackened applied Arabic numerals and matching feuille-style hands. Phillips notes that these details are unusual within the 5270 family and evoke design elements associated with historic perpetual calendar chronographs such as the Ref. 1518 and early Ref. 2499.

Production lasted approximately four years, from 2018 to 2022, after which Patek Philippe replaced the salmon configuration with the green-dial 5270P-014.
